Paper Sales Director – DS Smith Paper Division – Home office

Introduction

The Sales Director is responsible for the development and the implementation of the Paper sales strategy both internally and with external customers. Our client has the aim to be the ‘Supplier of Choice’ both internally and with external customers. Working closely with the Paper and Paper Sourcing MD and the Mills, to maximise the contribution form the Paper Mill network.

Organization

The European leader in packaging solutions with 10 paper mills in Europe and 200 packaging plants. The Paper head office is located in Brussels. Within the paper mill network are 25 sales professionals actively and five regional sales managers are reporting directly to the Sales Director Paper.

Function

The key accountabilities: 

Sales

Management and implementation of the Sales Strategy to support the long term Strategy of the Division; across regions and sales offices. Approval of sales contracts, credit check and payment control.


Develop & Implement the key Customers

Key Customer relationships, negotiating approach and business development. Responsible for establishing and maintaining good customer relations. Use customer survey feedback to develop individual customer plans.


Back-to-Back agreements

Responsible to ensure a consistent approach in managing the back-to-back agreements.

Customer Service
Establishment of service standards that ensure consistent service delivery improvements across the Mill Network. This will actively involve: Service Centre, Box Plants, Supply Chain, Paper Mills. Provision of full customised services for European customers.


Market Plan delivery
Work closely with Paper Supply Chain and Paper Mills to deliver the planned volumes. Manage any variations to plan with customers to maintain service quality.

Market Intelligence
Develop detailed knowledge of the market, customer needs and trends. Provides insight to management colleagues on emerging trends.


Product Development
Work with Mill and S&OP and TCS to develop products in line with market trends and customer needs. Act as a catalyst for change within the organisation

Complaint Management
Main ‘point of contact’ for any sales complaint; effectively manage these, together with TCS, resolve where possible and escalate where necessary. Complaint resolution and managing expectations will be key.

Marketing Communication
Ensure the implementation of the Communication Strategy to support the delivery of the business goals.


Continuous Improvement
Work with the Service Centre and Paper Mills, identify improvement opportunities in the current processes within Sales and Account Management for the Paper Division and PS. Look constantly for ways in which to innovate and enhance the offering to internal and external Customers.

Financial Management
Reduce working capital and monitor any budget deviations. Act on budget deviation through challenging the forecast, production allocations and overall despatches.

Requirements

Requirements:

  • Master Degree, ideally with an MBA Post Graduate qualification
  • Good understanding about the Market and Paper / Packaging Industry
  • 10 years experience in Business to Business Sales
  • Experienced in working within an international and multi culture environment
  • Experienced in developing, implementing and managing sales strategies
  • Experienced in managing the forecast accuracy and the performance
  • Willing to travel, hands on and knows how to deal with Politics in Organisations
