Job Description

The Mill Manager has overall responsibility for the safe running of the manufacturing operations (including maintenance and projects). In this role they will support the creation of the Mill’s strategy and delivering the core manufacturing objectives of the strategy.
The Mill Manager’s mission is to safely deliver on the manufacturing objectives associated with the group
strategy by optimizing available resources, rigorously applying business processes, and establishing an
effective improvement system.

Key Tasks:

  1. Ensure that manufacturing operations are carried out to world class safety standards and in
    accordance with company HSE management systems and French legislation/regulation
  2. Maintain and enforce compliance to the factory management systems (such as in HSE, Security and
    Quality) and French legislation/regulation
  3. Lead proactive initiatives to ensure that production targets and schedules are met efficiently and
    safely
  4. Lead the manufacturing team in setting an operational strategy for Pulp and paper manufacture that
    supports the overall Mill’s objectives
  5. Implement improvement activities to ensure the mill is consistently delivering on quality, cost, and
    delivery targets
  6. Facilitate the adoption of lean manufacturing tools & techniques and embed a continuous
    improvement culture
  7. Work with Smurfit Kappa group stakeholders to ensure a best practice approach

Accountable

  • Driving a zero-harm culture through having safety as a value to ensure the safety of employees and a having a safe environment, minimizing risk
  • Ensure the environmental compliance of the site (direct contact with local authority)
  • Ensure optimal execution of operations by relentlessly delivering on targets in terms of occupational
    health and safety, production capacity, standardization of operating costs and quality
  • Ensure there is a good social climate by leading the work council
  • Ensure there is performance management techniques in place and keep all workers accountable for
    their actions
  • Establish and apply standard production practices and procedures to achieve mill’s objectives
  • Engage and develop employees

Responsible

  • Ensure healthy working relationships and provide active listening to employees
  • Scrupulously apply business processes to create a continuous improvement culture
  • Ensure that conditions are in place for constant communication with employees (floor rounds,
    logbooks, etc.)
  • Actively participate in the creation and implementation of optimization and investment projects
  • Owner of the strategic plan for the success of the mil
